He was born Michael Shawn Hickenbottom on July 22, 1965, in Chandler, Arizona as the last of the four children of his parents Richard and Carol Hickenbottom.

His other, all older siblings include Randy, Scott, and Shari. He had a peculiar upbringing that one would say influenced his choice of profession.

He grew up with a military father and as such, discipline was a rule heavily enforced to keep the children in line at all times.

His father’s job also ensured that he grew up in different places at different times. Of the places the family lived, he spent some time in Reading, Berkshire, England, but also did some growing up in San Antonio, Texas.

In his very first attempt at matrimony, Shawn Michael got married to Theresa Lynn Wood in 1988 but the union was not to last as they soon ended up in an amicable divorce in 1994.

After the divorce, he met Rebecca Curci who was a former WCW Nitro Girl better known to many as Whisper. The two were introduced by a common friend named Rich Mizner. The two dated for a while until Shawn felt he was ready to give matrimony a second try.

He began by performing wrestling routines in his high school’s talent show, he went as far as using fake blood to make it look real and good too.
