Samara Weaving was born on February 23, 1992, in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, but spent the years after that moving around from Singapore, Fiji, Indonesia, and back to Australia with her family.

Weaving was born and raised by her parents Simon Weaving (father) and Helena Bezzina (mother) alongside her younger sister Morgan Weaving in Singapore, Fiji, and Indonesia.

Her father is a filmmaker and the artistic director of the Canberra International Film Festival and her mother is Maltese. Her sister is also an actress and their uncle Hugo Weaving is a film and theatre actor.

Weaving was once in a relationship with Matt Skinner in 2012 and in the years she also dated Axel Whitehead. She currently is rumored to be dating Rob Moore.


She attended grade school in Jakarta, Indonesia, eventually going to Pittwater House School in Australia in 2004 prior to then joining the Canberra Girls’ Grammar School.


Weaving first acting role as Kirsten Mulroney in the 2008 Australian-UK soap opera Out of the Blue which was not commissioned for a second season. In 2009, she was cast as Indigo “Indi” Walker in the Australian soap opera Home and Away. She initially appeared for five weeks in a recurring capacity.

Weaving repeated the role the following year after producers brought her and her on-screen family back as part of the main cast. She relocated from Canberra to Sydney for filming.

For her performance as Indi, Weaving received a nomination for the Audience Choice Award for Best Female Performance in a Television Drama at the 1st AACTA Awards in 2012. In July 2013, Weaving confirmed that she had filmed her last scenes for Home and Away. She felt that with the show’s international success, it was the right time to pursue new roles.

Weaving asked to be released from her contract, after making a complaint about having to perform a nude sex scene.

Daniel Holloway of Variety reported that Weaving felt uncomfortable by Shaw’s behavior during a similar scene in season one, leading to an investigation of alleged misconduct by Shaw. The investigation found that there was no wrongdoing on Shaw’s part.

In 2018, Weaving appeared in the Picnic at Hanging Rock miniseries, along with Natalie Dormer and Yael Stone. She is set to star opposite Andie MacDowell and Mark O’Brien in the upcoming Fox Searchlight thriller Ready or Not, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
