Metta World Peace was born on 13 November, 1979 and grew up in Queens, New York. He was born as Ronald William Artest Jr., but on 16 September, 2011, he officially renamed himself as “Metta World Peace”. He is the eldest child of his parents.
His two younger brothers are Daniel and Isaiah. Initially, he joined La Salle Academy and played his high school level basketball there. Afterwards, he joined St. John’s University and from 1997 to 1999, he played college level basketball at this University.
He graduated in mathematics from St. John’s. While Metta was playing basketball in the various tournaments of New York, he got a lot of fame and was even given different nicknames, like “The New World Order” and “Tru Warier”.

On 11 January, 2013, while playing against the ‘Thunders’, he got injured in his right leg and was rested for two months. He got another injury in his left knee, while playing against the ‘Golden State Warriors’ on 25 March.
His knee was operated and he was advised six weeks of rest by the doctors, but he returned to the game only after 12 days and performed average. He was bought by the ‘New York Knicks’ for the 2013-14 season and by the ‘Sichuan Blue Whales’ for the 2014-15 season. However, due to his knee injury, he couldn’t play for all the games.
In a total of 15 games that he played for the ‘Whales’, he scored an average of 2.3 steals, 6 rebounds and 19 points per game. On 24 September, 2015, Metta again returned to the ‘Lakers’ and played for two seasons.
He performed very well during these two seasons and led the ‘Lakers’ to new heights. After playing his last game with the ‘Lakers’ in the 2017 season, Metta retired from professional basketball. On 23 October, 2017, the ‘South Bay Lakers’ hired Metta as coach for their player’s development.
