Matthew Gray Gubler was born on March 9, 1980, in Las Vegas, Nevada. His mother Marilyn (née Kelch) worked as a political advisor while his father John Gubler is a lawyer. He had his high school education at the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Visual and Performing Arts. His first choice major was filmmaking, however, he opted for acting since the school did not offer the former.

For his college education, Matthew Gubler studied at the prestigious New York University Tisch School of the Arts graduating in 2002 with a B.F.A. degree in film directing.

He began his modeling career as a college student having been spotted by a models scout. Gubler got signed to DNA Model Management where he worked for major designers as well as retail brands.

Matthew Gray Gubler eventually delved into acting following an internship with renowned filmmaker Wes Anderson. He successfully auditioned for a role in Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou which marked the beginning of his professional acting career.

In 2005, with an almost non-existing résumé, Matthew Gray Gubler landed his breakthrough role as Dr. Spencer Reid on the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds. He has remained a member of the main cast of the hit series since 2005 and has appeared in every season of the show.

Criminal Minds was renewed by CBS for a 14th season in May 2018. In addition to his starring role, Matthew Gubler has also taken up directorial duties on a number of episodes.

Matthew Gray Gubler started his career by doing modeling. Then he had an internship with Wes Anderson and encouraged him to audition for a part in his movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Starting from the year 2006 he played small roles in the film RV,  Alvin and the Chipmunks in 2007, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel in 2009, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked in 2011), and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip in 2015 alongside Jason Lee , Justin Long, and Jesse McCartney. Similarly, he has also appeared in  How to Be a Serial Killer in2008, and as Paul in Days of Summer in 2009.

He had acted in the zombie comedy Life After Beth and the film Suburban Gothic in 2014 as well as play movie Band of Robbers in 2015.  He had been posting paintings on his website from 2005 and highlighted in 2013.

Relationship

Matthew Gray started to date his first girlfriend Eve Wind at a very young age but separated before 2004. Then in the same year, he started dating with model Charlotte Kemp Muhl but again separated in 2005 due to complications in their relationship. In 2007, he again dated Kat Dennings.

Likewise, the couple broke up but remained on good terms and even co-starred in Suburban Gothic in 2014. Then he dated  Portuguese actress Marisa Morris in 2008 for 2 years and broke up in 2010. Then in 2010, he was in the relationship with musician Victoria Asher as well as Ali Michael and with French journalist Rachel Bourlier but broked up.

And his recent 2013 girlfriend was Taylor Swift. However, their relationship couldn’t blossom into something serious due to their work commitments and conflicting schedule and he is finally living the life of single.
