Manu Bennett was born on October 10, 1969, in Rotorua, New Zealand. Manu was born to father Ted Bennett and mother Jean Bennett. His father Ted was a New Zealand singer and her mother was an  Australian bikini model. He has a brother, Stephen Bennett. Manu grew up in Australia as his parents took him there. Unfortunately, he faced an accident along with his family.

He lost his mother and brother during the accident. Furthermore, there are not many details about his childhood. Manu holds dual citizenship of New Zealand and Australian. Manu holds mixed ethnicity of  Māori, English, Irish, Scottish.

Talking about his education, he attended Merewether High School in Australia. Later, he joined Te Aute College from where he played the 1st XV. Furthermore, he was also in the New South Wales Schoolboys Rugby Union Team. After completing his college, he went to Los Angeles and enrolled at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

His first lead role was in the movie Tomoko in 1999. Furthermore, he starred as a salsa dance teacher in the 2001 Australian movie Lantana. After returning to New Zealand, Manu appeared in the famous television drama Shortland Street.

Moreover, he has also starred opposite Angelina Jolie for a part in the Tomb Raider sequel, The Cradle of Life. In 2003, he also hosted the reality show called Going straight.
