Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was born in New York City in 1947, as Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. in New York City and only child of parents. Kareem was unusually large and tall from childhood. Kareem’s father Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Sr. was a police officer and musician and his mother Cora Lillian was working in a department store.

Abdul-Jabbar brought up as Catholic, but in 1971, he accepted Islam and took the name, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He is an author of many best-selling books and appeared in various films.

Abdul-Jabbar refused to play for the United States Men’s Olympic Basketball team in the 1968 Summer Olympics to record the protest against the differential treatment of African-Americans in the United States.

Abdul-Jabbar married to Habiba Abdul-Jabbar born as Janice Brown, and the couple has two daughters; Habiba and Sultana and son Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Junior, who also a player of Basketball. They divorced in 1978. Abdul-Jabbar has another son, Amir, with Cheryl. He has another son, Adam, from a different mother.

Kareem made his name in basketball at the University of California, but his first professional appearance was for Milwaukee Bucks. During his stay with Bucks, Bucks won many titles, and Kareem individually won many awards such as NBA Most Valuable Player Awards and NBA Rookie of the Year.

Kareem left the Milwaukee Bucks in October 1974 to join either New York Knicks or Los Angeles. Los Angeles Lakers acquired Kareem in 1975 from Bucks. In his first season with Los Angeles Lakers, he set new records and earned his fourth Most Valuable Player award.

In the 1976-77 season, Kareem has another dominant season, and helped his side to a better record in NBA and also won the fifth Most Valuable Player award. Kareem helped the Los Angeles Lakers to won five NBA championships.

Kareem announced his retirement in June 1989, at the age of 42 after 15 years with the Los Angeles Lakers. After the retirement, Kareem served as the assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Seattle SuperSonics. Kareem also tried his fortune in acting and appeared in various movies such as Game of Death, Airplane, and Forget Paris.
