The British racing driver, Timothy Jason Plato was born on 14 October 1967 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom.

No information is available regarding his parents and family. Talking about his educational background, Jason studied at Chillingham Road Primary School and later attended The King’s School in Tynemouth.

He was born and raised in Oxford and holds the British nationality.

The British racer began his career in between the 80s’ and 90s’ as a car racer. After gaining success on the Junior TKM Class, Formula Renault, Formula Three; he entered in Renault Spider Championship in 1996 and won the title.

As of 2019, he completes in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for Team BMW. Then he has signed a contract with Williams Renault BTCC Team in 1997. He represented the team for three years and won two races as a rookie.

In 2000, he joined Vauxhall and end overall 1st place in the championship. In 2001, he moves to the British ASCAR stock car and finished overall at the third championship. Before returning to BTCC, he was a coach driver for SEAT in 2003.

In 2004, he returned to the BTCC with the Spanish team. In 2010,  he was the second driver for Silver Chevrolet and has 12 Top 3 finishes in the Championship.

He also competed in other racing including Bathurst 1000 and Sandown 500. During his 2005 BTCC Campaign, he competed in the World Touring Car Championship for SEAT. He finished the second overall in the 2005 European Touring Car Cup.

Apart from his racing, Jason Plato is a co-presenter for Channel 5 show Fifth Gear, co-starring with  Tiff Needell and Vicki Butler-Henderson. Previously, he co-presented Channel 4’s show Driven along with Penny Mallory, James May and Mike Brewer.

During filming for Fifth Gear, in 2007, he was injured in a Ca[aro T1 supercar at Brunyingthorpe proving ground and also the car caught fire. After that, he was rushed to hospital by former BTCC Phil Bennett after treatment at three hospitals. Jason said about his injuries,

“The back of my neck is burnt and so are my face and hands. I obviously couldn’t take my hands off the steering wheel whilst braking and my right hand is more badly burnt than my left.”

The racing driver presented the famous show Mission Implausible on Sky One television. Further, he appeared on car shows like Top Gear and even movies such as Loose Women in 2003.
