Jami Gertz was born in Chicago, Illinois, the USA on October 28, 1965. Her nationality is American and ethnicity is Ashkenazi Jewish.

Her birth name is Jami Beth Gertz. She lived in the city nearby suburb of Glenview. Her father is Walter Gertz, who was a builder and a contractor. Her mother was Sharyn Gertz. She has two brothers, Michael Gertz and Scott Gertz. Jami was raised in Conservative Judaism and she was born Jewish.

Gertz is a married woman. She is married to Tony Ressler since 1989 and is living together till date. There are no kinds of conflicts in their personal life. The couple is living in Los Angeles, California with their three sons. Gertz has a straight sexual orientation.

She graduated from Maine East High School in Illinois (1983). She led herself to NYU where she studied drama. Jami now lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband and three sons.

Career

The actress was discovered when Norman Lear, an American television writer, and producer, set up a nationwide talent search. She was cast, alongside Andrew Dice Clay, at a young age in an episode of Diff’rent Strokes. 

She later had a recurring role as a friend and schoolmate of one of the lead characters on The Facts Of Life. Later, she was cast in Square Pegs as one of the main cast members – other cast members included Sarah Jessica Parker and Amy Linker.

The Chicago native appeared in her first film, Endless Love, in 1981. While her role was only a bit brief, things began looking up for her career when she was cast like Robert Downey Jr’s ‘friend-with-benefit’ in Less Than Zero. Shortly after that, she appeared as a ‘half-vampire’ in 1987’s hit movie, The Lost Boys opposite Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland.

In the early 90s, she took a break from Hollywood and moved to Paris where she worked as a scent designer for Lanvin. when she returned to Los Angeles, she was cast in a supporting but key role in 1996’s hit disaster movie, Twister, opposite Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.

Other films she starred in include Jersey Girl, Crossroads, Solarbabies and Listen To Me, contributing to a successful career.

She also appeared in an episode of Seinfeld as one of Jerry’s girlfriends who worked as a phone sex operator. In 1997, she was cast as Dr. Nina Pomerantz, a recurring character in NBC’s medical show E.R. which was so popular during its peak that it turned George Clooney from an unknown actor into a Hollywood A-lister.

It was also rumored that Jami Gertz was offered the role of Rachel Green (which later went to Jennifer Aniston) in FRIENDS but she turned down the role.

In 2000, She was cast as Kimmy Bishop, a love interest for Johnny Cage in Ally McBeal. Her role earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

Some of her later roles include appearances in Undercover ChristmasFighting the Odds: The Marilyn Gambrell Story, Modern Family, A Better Life, and Entourage.
