Heidi Montag was born on September 15, 1986, in Crested Butte, Colorado, to parents Darlene and Bill Montag. After divorcing her father, her mother married Tim Egelhoff, who owned The Timberline restaurant. Her father later married Terri O’Hara. She has an older sister Holly, also is a reality television personality, and a younger brother Sky. Her stepbrother Eric O’Hara died in 2008 after an accidental fall from an icy roof. After graduating from high school, she shifted to California and studied in the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for one semester.

During freshman orientation, she befriended Lauren Conrad, who was then a primary member of the MTV reality television series ‘Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County’. Conrad later became a popular American television personality, fashion designer, and author.

Heidi Montag started her career as an assistant at Bolthouse Productions and within two years, was promoted as an event planner.

While doing ‘The Hills’, Montag started dating fellow cast member Spencer Pratt, which led to a dispute between her and Conrad and affected their friendship. By the second season, their friendship had deteriorated further. During the third season, Conrad ended her friendship with Montag as she suspected that Pratt was responsible for rumors of a sex tape that involved her and her former boyfriend Jason Wahler. However, their feud became the central focus of the ‘The Hills’ series, and was carried through each subsequent season.

In August 2006, Montag entered the music industry and started recording her debut studio album. That same month, a song from the album titled ‘Body Language’ was leaked on the internet, which featured a rap verse from Pratt.

In 2009, Heidi Montag and Pratt made controversial appearances on the second season of the American version of ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ to support of the ‘Feed the Children’ foundation.They quit the show when Montag was hospitalized with a gastric ulcer. The couple alleged that they were subjected to torture during production. In August 2009, she performed her first single, ‘Body Language’, at the Miss Universe 2009. However, her appearance was criticized. In November, Montag and Pratt released their book ‘How to Be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid Fixture’.

In May 2010, Heidi Montag and her husband made their final appearance on ‘The Hills’, through the sixth and final season.

In February 2013, Channel 5 aired a television special discussing Montag and Pratt’s rise to prominence. The show was called ‘Speidi: Scandal, Secrets & Surgery!’ In December, she and Pratt appeared in an E! television special ‘After Shock: Heidi & Spencer’, where they claimed that many of the situations in the so-called reality shows they had starred on were actually made up by the show’s producers.
