Caroline Kennedy was born on 27 November 1957 in Manhattan at the home of Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy and John Fitzgerald Kennedy. She was named after her maternal aunt Lee Radzwill.

Kennedy had a younger brother John who died in 1999 in a plane crash. At the age of three, she moved to the White House when her father became President of the United States.
