Biography – Early Life
Bob Seger was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 6, 1945, to Charlotte and Stewart Seger. He has one brother named George.
His father loved music and young Bob grew up listening to his father play various musical instruments. He was a big fan of Elvis Presley and Little Richard.
His parents had a troubled marriage and his father abandoned the family leaving his wife and kids to fend for themselves when Bob was just 10 years old.
Seger formed his first band “the Decibels” in 1961 while he was still in high school with two of his school mates Pete Stanger and H.B. Hunter
He attended Pioneer High School and graduated in 1963.
Bob fronted a three-piece band called the Decibels. He played the guitar piano, keyboards, and also contributed in vocals. In 1961, the Decibels recorded an acetate demo of a song called ‘The Lonely One’, at Del Shannon’s studio.
Later, he joined the Town Criers, a four-piece band with Seger on lead vocals, John Flis on bass, Pep Perrine on drums, and Larry Mason on lead guitar. The Town Criers. This was after the Decibels disbanded.
Bob eventually joined Doug Brown & The Omens, who presumably had a bigger following than the Town Criers. He soon got a contract with Cameo-Parkway Records.
Bob Seger & the Last Heard signed with major label Capitol Records in the spring of 1968. Next, Capitol changed the name of the band to the Bob Seger System. The second single from The Bob Seger System ‘Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man’ became a major hit in Michigan.
Bob Seger formed the Silver Bullet Band in 1974. Next, he and the Silver Bullet Band released the album ‘Live Bullet’ in April 1976. From 1976 to 1987, his musical career reached the peak of success.
Furthermore, he finally achieved his commercial breakthrough with his October 1976 album ‘Night Moves’.
