Early Life and Education
Amy Carlson was born in the year 1968 on 7th of July in a suburban part of Illinois, Glen Ellyn. However, sources claim that her parents, Bob Carlson and Barbara Carlson used to teach at the American Community School located in Jordan.
She has three siblings; Betsy Carlson, Lori Carlson, and Joe Carlson. When she reached thirteen years, her whole family moved to Amman, Jordan for a year.
As for her high school education, she graduated from Glenbard West High School. She received a degree in Theatre and East Asian history from Knox College later on.
High school athlete Carlson was active in her high school years as an athlete. She was an all-rounder in almost everything during high school. Her involvement in sports activities came to halt when she sustained an injury. Following the incident, she went on to pursue activities in theatre.
Her theatre role began with ‘Aunt Dan and Lemon’ directed by Wallace Shawn and Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July. After Carlson moved to Chicago, she studied acting at The Acting Center and Improv at the Improv Olympics. A cum laude graduate, Carlson went on to act in several of her high school’s theatre productions like School for Scandal, A lie of the mind and Noises off.

She is married to Syd Butler, who is a bassist in Indie legend band ‘Les Savy Fav’ and 8G band. The couple gave birth to a daughter in October 2006, Lyla Butler and a son in August 2009, Nigel Butler.
Carlson is living in Chinatown, Manhattan with her husband and children. As both of her parents were teachers, she got to travel with her family to each and every state in the United States except Alaska.
She spent one year with her family in the Middle East. She has got two Chinese symbols tattooed on her ankle and the symbols stand for ‘Love and Happiness’ and ‘Peace of Mind’.

‘Blue Bloods’ star Carlson has nabbed a couple of prestigious awards in her career. Recipient of Bronze Wrangler award, she shared the award with fellow cast members of 2003 drama ‘Peacemaker’ at the 2004 Western Heritage Awards.
