Alex Guarnaschelli is an American celebrity chef and executive chef at New York City’s Butter restaurant. She has appeared as a television personality on the Food Network shows Chopped, Iron Chef America, All-Star Family Cook-off, and The Best Thing I Ever Ate. She is also famous for hosting Alex’s Day Off and The Cooking Loft on Food Network and Cooking Channel.
Alex Guarnaschelli was born on June 20, 1972, in New York City, New York, United States. Her nationality is American and belongs to Italian ethnicity.
She is the daughter of John Guarnaschelli and Maria Guarnaschelli. Her mother is a cookbook editor while her father is an Italian and Chinese cooking enthusiast. Hence, her childhood and time with family were mostly surrounded by food which encouraged her to travel and expand her skills.
Before fame, she worked under Larry Forgione early in her career and worked in restaurants that include Guy Savoy’s La Butte Chaillot, Daniel Boulud’s eponymous restaurant, and Joachim Splichal’s Patina.
Alex is a graduate of Horace Mann School in The Bronx, New York. After that, she graduated from Barnard College in 1991. She went to La Varenne Culinary School in Burgundy, France to work and study more about cooking.
Alex began her TV career in 2007, as a competitor on The Food Network’s Iron Chef America. In 2011, she competed in the fourth season of The Next Iron Chef, where she placed as the third runner-up.
