Alan Alda was born as “Alphonso Joseph D’Abruzzo” to his parents Joan Browne and Robert Alda on January 28, 1936, in New York City, New York. At the age of seven years, he had polio.

He completed his schooling from Archbishop Stepinac High School located in White Plains, New York. He has received his bachelor’s degree in English from Fordham University’s Fordham College. In there, he was a staff member of WFUV, which is an FM radio station. He has also studied in Paris and played in Rome.

In 1957, Alan Alda got married to writer and photographer Arlene Alda. The couple has three daughters named Eve, Elizabeth, and ‘Beatrice. They also have eight grandchildren. He has been a longtime resident of Leonia, New Jersey.

Alda made his film debut by appearing in the 1963 movie ‘Gone Are the Days.’ He was then seen in the film ‘Paper Lion’. He has successfully appeared in many films including ‘The Extraordinary Seamen’.
